Meet our Team

Dr. Bloom is a Certified Fear Free Practitioner and American Association of Feline Practitioners Cat Friendly Certified. He founded Bloom Animal Hospital in 1984, eight years after graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University (MSU). That same year he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP), a certification renewed in 1994, 2002, and 2012.

In 1987, Dr. Bloom began training in advanced veterinary dermatology and was one of only two doctors selected from the Metro Detroit area to participate in a dermatology clerkship at MSU. Then in 2001, he became Michigan’s FIRST board-certified veterinary dermatologist by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology® (ACVD) in full-time private practice – one of only 380 diplomates of veterinary dermatology in the entire United States.

Dr. Bloom is currently one of only 10 double-boarded veterinary dermatologists in the nation. This means he not only has the depth of training (ACVD) but also the breadth of training (ABVP) in veterinary medicine to offer you the best care possible. In 2019, he received the MSU CVM Distinguished Alumni Award – Practitioner; a prestigious award given only to the most exemplary of Michigan State’s alumni. At that same ceremony, he received the 2019 Philanthropist of the Year for his work with the Mexican Equitarian Clerkship and contributions to support equine residents at MSU.

When Dr. Bloom is not at the animal hospital, he serves as an adjunct professor at his alma mater (go Spartans!). Some of his students have and continue to complete their dermatology rotation at Bloom Animal Hospital, and in the summer of 2019 he is beginning a new phase at the hospital as a veterinary dermatology residential director. Dr. Bloom and his wife Susan reside in South Lyon with our many pets: one dog, one goat, one sheep, two miniature donkeys, three cats, and two horses. It’s a full house!

To give you an insight into Dr. Bloom’s purpose in life, we thought we would share some of his philanthropic endeavors:

Educator

For over 25 years, Dr. Bloom has volunteered his time and expertise as a veterinary dermatologist, both at MSU and at his clinic, to train veterinary students and veterinary dermatology residents. He strives to improve the practice of veterinary dermatology by lecturing to practices across the country, and the world. Representing the ACVD, he has lectured pro bono to veterinarians in regions of the country that are underserved by veterinary dermatologists.

Dr. Jones completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia. She then graduated from St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine, and completed a one year rotation internship at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Jones has lived a little bit of everywhere, but has lived the longest in Georgia! She has two awesome cats: Bruce and Oliver. Dr. Jones enjoys gardening, camping, cooking (even though she's a terrible baker), and traveling.

Melinda is thrilled to be one of your licensed veterinary technicians! She started working with animals in 2007, volunteering at a no kill animal shelter before working at her first veterinary hospital in 2009. In 2013, she graduated the veterinary technician degree program from Wayne County Community College and was licensed in September of 2013. Melinda lives with a very needy, but loveable cat, Leroy. Outside of her passion for animal care, she enjoys camping, cooking, and archery. Melinda loves caring for our most fearful patients; there is no pet we cannot make comfortable and calm!

Becca is a licensed veterinary technician that has been working at Bloom Veterinary Hospital since 2018. She received her technician degree from Michigan State University, and is proud to say that she graduated with a bachelor’s in veterinary technology with a concentration in zoo and wildlife medicine. It is one of Becca’s greatest joys to get to know you and work closely with your pets, not only to help them heal and stay healthy, but to get to know their personalities and what makes them happy. She and her husband Kirk have a full house: their four dogs Pinot Noir, Dixie Lou, Tito, and J.D. cohabitate with their kitties Toulouse and Whiskey. Working with rescue and foster animals is a true passion of hers, and she loves to travel and volunteer. Be sure to say “hi!” the next time you and your little buddy are in to see us!

Allysa graduated from Wayne County Community college Vet Tech program in 2017. She did her externship with the Bloom Animal Hospital team, and we both loved it so much that she has been here ever since! Allysa is married to her wonderful partner Mike, and has two dogs, named Luna and Scout, and two cats, named Creeper and Videl. She enjoys baking and spending time outdoors with her dogs.

Marcy has the distinct pleasure to greet all our clients and patients as well as making sure they have everything they need before they leave our hospital. Having worked at Bloom Animal Hospital since 1992, she has held the position of licensed veterinary technician since graduating from MSU Veterinary Technician School, but is most often seen in reception these days as your customer service representative. Marcy's greatest joy in her job is making sure that pet owners have all the education and information they need to get the proper care and attention they need at home with their owners. A true rescue momma, Marcy currently has two beautiful dogs (Edwin and Chucky) who were saved from the streets of Detroit. She is here to answer all your pet health questions!

Every client deserves a professional yet personalized experience where they are listened to and understood. Every pet deserves comprehensive and gentle care completed with exactitude. These are my values I bring to work everyday. I have been a Veterinary Technician since 2014. My interests are dentistry, phlebotomy, and client education. I have 2 young sons that I am teaching compassion toward our 2 dogs, 2 cats, Gargoyle Gecko, African Pygmy hedgehog, and fish. I can't wait to meet you and your furry best friend!

Carrie Ducomb has done it all here at Bloom Animal Hospital! In addition to being a licensed veterinary technician (with an associates in applied sciences) and the kennel attendant supervisor, she is also your lead customer service representative; the person you see smiling at you from behind the desk at almost every visit. Carrie has been with the practice for over 24 years because of how much she loves her job and all our wonderful patients. Carrie and her husband Steve have a full menagerie at home: their Golden Retriever Sookie (who is an internet sensation!), 3 cats (Oscar, Kitty, and Gypsy), and several feral cats that are part of Carrie's trap-neuter-return program that she does in her spare time. Caring for homeless cats is a true passion of hers, and she takes great pride in the care that she gives my colony and, when she is able, to find homes for the adoptable in the group. It is her daily joy to care for your patients as her own!

Stephanie is an LVT that graduated from Michigan State University in 2018. She has been with us for about 2 years! Stephanie has a husband (Sawyer), and a baby (Simon) that was born in March of 2020! When not found spending time with her pet weiner dog Luna or cat Nergal, Stephanie enjoys campaign, biking, walking, and spending time outdoors.

Ashley has the pleasure to be your client services representative! Hired in 2018, she has fallen in love with Bloom Animal Hospital, its clients, and its patients. Giving your pets extra attention and love while they are here is her favorite thing about the job. Ashley also enjoys getting to know our clients and making sure that you have everything you need while you are here and before you leave. She and her husband Daniel have two dogs, 7 year old Poseidon and 2 year old Lucy, and they are always looking for new additions to their family.
